In 1955 when Rosa Parks refused to relinquish her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama city bus it was the Boycott of the Montgomery bus system led by Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. that thrust him into the national spotlight as the face of the civil rights movement. King's passion for equality and his position in the community set the right stage for him to lead and become the face of the Civil Rights movement.
